Being a part of the committee can require a significant amount of work and effort. As a committee member, you have responsibilities that go beyond just attending meetings.

So, how can you ensure that your committee is successful? Here are some tips that can help.

1. Committee work goes beyond meetings

If your committee only meets once every three months, it’s not enough to achieve everything you need to do. There is a lot of downtime in between these meetings, and if no one is leading the group, committee members may not know what is expected of them during that time. This gap can cause projects in the body corporate to slow down.

2. Divvy up responsibilities

During committee meetings, it is important to discuss and decide who will be responsible for each task. For instance, if the gutters need fixing, someone needs to get a quote for the work. It could be the caretaker, body corporate manager (depending on their contract responsibilities), or a committee member who takes on that job.

3. Communication is key

Committee members should keep each other informed between meetings. If there are any updates or issues that need to be addressed, committee members should communicate with one another.

Communication can be done through email, text, phone calls, or through their body corporate manager. Effective communication ensures that everyone is on the same page, and work is moving forward.

4. Proactive approach to tasks

Committee members should ask questions during meetings, and if they feel that someone needs to take on a task, they could volunteer to do it. Being proactive will prevent work from slowing down and ensure the building’s maintenance is on track.

5. Teamwork is Essential

Committee members must understand that they are part of a team, and each has a role to play. The success of the committee depends on everyone’s participation and dedication. If one member is not pulling their weight, it can affect the entire group’s productivity. It is therefore essential to work together as a team, with each member committed to the success and goals of the body corporate.
